IRVINE —?The Japanese Kimono Festival will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8, from 12:45 to 4:30 p.m. at the Irvine Valley College Performing Arts Center, 5500 Irvine Center Dr., Irvine.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Irvine, in partnership with the City of Irvine, Irvine Valley College and the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, the festival will be a day of celebrating the Japanese tradition of the art of kimono dressing. Proceeds of ticket sales and a silent auction will be used to provide financial relief for the victims of the devastating 2011 earthquake and tsunami, and to benefit community projects supported by the Rotary Club of Irvine.
Doors open at 12:45 p.m. Wine reception and silent auction start at 1 p.m., followed by the show at 2 p.m.
Nihon Waso Gakuen is a kimono dressing academy that has been in existence for 41 years. It is dedicated to teaching women the graceful art of kimono dressing and to share kimono dressing in countries outside of Japan. Based in Osaka, Nihon Waso Gakuen has kimono dressing schools in 21 prefectures throughout Japan.
The “Japan’s Seasons and Traditions” performance returns to Irvine after a 20-year absence. Nihon Waso Gakuen has also performed in France, Italy, China, Thailand, Australia, and Canada.
