The Japan Foundation Los Angeles Lecture Series will present “Mavericks Change the World” by Takarabune on Saturday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at Japan House Los Angeles, Hollywood and Highland (6801 Hollywood Blvd.), Level 5, Los Angeles.
Takarabune is a troupe of young dancers of Awa Odori, a dance with a proud 400-year tradition from Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. Members will share their life stories, their original inspiration behind becoming the first professional Awa Odori group, how they maintain the delicate balance of keeping tradition while breaking out of it, and most importantly, how they envision changing the world as “dancing mavericks.”
Toward the end of the lecture, the audience will be taught by the troupe how move like mavericks and have crazy fun.
Free admission. Register through www.jflalc.org.
