Though Florida makes headlines for all sorts of fun and asking friend to have gay sex on videobizarre reasons, finding the Sunshine State at the genesis of the zombie apocalypse is a turn of events you might not expect. Or, okay, maybe you would expect that.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the alert sent Sunday reads:
"Power outage and zombie alert for residents of Lake Worth and Terminus. There are now far less than seven thousand three hundred and eighty customers involved due to extreme zombie activity. Restoration time uncertain."
FYI, "Terminus" is a location from the AMC zombie hit TV series, The Walking Dead.
In a statement shared to the Lake Worth Live Facebook page, the city's Public Information Officer Ben Kerr made it clear that, no, zombies aren't roaming the Florida community.
"I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message," reads the statement.
In a chat with Gizmodo, Kerr said that the city's been dealing with fake zombie alerts since Hurricane Irma hit the state back in 2017. He told the site that though someone broke into the city's messaging system and added undead references to some pre-written alerts, the city has since removed those messages.
It hasn't been a great year for public alert systems, considering January's false missile alert in Hawaii. At least this one was more farfetched and less likely to cause actual panic.
But let's be real -- if a zombie apocalypse were to start anywhere, it would be in Florida.
