Engineer Josh Wardle originally created Wordleas a gift for his partner (romance!), but the game quickly spread around the world towards the end of 2021. Now thousands of players across the globe play Wordleeach day, and it was purchased by the New York Timesearlier this year.
Fans have also created numerous clones and riffs on Wordle, such as addictive music game Heardle, and variations like Dordleand Quordlethat have you trying to guess multiple words at once. Wordlehas also become unexpected content for livestreamers, with TikTok creators broadcasting themselves playing.

In the strictest sense, the "best" starting word is that day's answer. But for those of us not blessed with magical foresight, we have plenty of ideas to help you formulate a more strategic approach.
