Before knowing about the poisoning and tampering, Rowe had already made arrangements to move out. She had been having throat pain and other ailments since moving into her dorm. While she was moving out, she discovered the Instagram post and other evidence that her belongings had been contaminated.
Rowe showed screenshots of Brochu's post that admitted the abuse, which said, "yo girl got rid of her roommate!! After 1 1/2 month of spitting in her coconut oil, putting moldy clam dip in her lotions, rubbing used tampons (on) her backpack, putting her toothbrush places where the sun doesn't shine, and so much more I can finally say goodbye Jamaican Barbie." The post has been deleted and the account made private.
Rowe, who is black, said in a Facebook video that if the race roles were reversed, she thinks the situation with her white roommate would have been handled differently. Police have added an "intimidation based on bigotry or bias" charge, according to the New York Times.
On Wednesday, the University of Hartford updated a statement about the "deeply disturbing situation" with the news that Brochu "is no longer a student at the University of Hartford. She will not be returning to the institution."
The day before, the university president wrote a letter about the alleged roommate bullying. He called Brochu's behavior "reprehensible."
Rowe posted on Facebook that she was "not holding my tongue any longer about my situation because this is just ridiculous."
Online supporters are rallying around Rowe with the hashtag #justiceforjazzy.

Brochu appeared in court on Wednesday and the case will continue on Nov. 15, based on court documents. In the affidavit, Brochu told authorities she hadn't intended to make her roommate sick, but she did admit to licking Rowe's eating utensils and the other abuse from her Instagram post.
