Okay yes,gay sex position videos being a celebrity means being in the public eye. Also yes, the advent of social media and Twitter means that public scrutiny is no longer limited to the tabloids.
But does that mean we all have to pile in when someone's moustache is less than resplendent?
SEE ALSO: Alexander Skarsgård trolled his brother at the 'It' premiere and the photos are downright perfectAlexander Skarsgård won Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series last night for his role in Big Little Lies, but many on Twitter were not so concerned with his acting ability.
Instead many expressed very strong feelings towards Alexander Skarsgård's choice of facial hair. The commentary ranges from weirdly backhanded compliments...

Okay, so it's not a full-on Nick Offerman-style 'tache, but does it really warrant quite so much vitriol? Bearing in mind that facial hair takes time to grow -- what with it being hair and all -- it inevitably starts out a little thin, people!
Picking up on small imperfections in celebrities' appearances has been a staple of tabloid commentary for decades now, but it's an urge that really should be resisted. True, lampooning Skarsgård's moustache isn't quite in the same calibre of objectification as zooming in on female celebrities' thighs to check for cellulite or making them put their hands in boxes for inspection (remember when Elizabeth Moss flipped off the 'manicam'? Bloody brilliant) but it's still pretty harsh.
The conclusion to be drawn from all this is essentially "be nicer", which is not a particularly useful mantra to preach to the Twittersphere... but I for one hope Alexander continues to do whatever he damn well pleases with his own face.
Also, you know, congrats on the Emmy.
