El Camino: A Breaking Bad Moviewill not only stream on ive video sexNetflix when it premieres in October, but in select theaters around the country.
Netflix revealed Wednesday that El Caminowill be available on the big screen in select U.S. cities the weekend of Oct. 11 - 13, with tickets available now.
Writer and director Vince Gilligan told The Hollywood Reporter that the film's theatrical engagement is a tribute to how the cast and crew of Breaking Badwould watch each season premiere on a big screen.
"We would have this wonderful, very limited, one-time opportunity to watch our television show on a big screen with giant stereo speakers thumping, the image filling 40 feet across," he said. "I always thought, 'This thing, it looks like a movie. It doesn't look like a show.' I really want to be able to share that with fans."
Gilligan also told THR that at least 10 known Breaking Bad characters will return for El Camino. We already know that it's about Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), and that it features his old pal Skinny Pete (Charles Baker) in the trailer. Badger (Matt L. Jones) will also make an appearance, but the rest remain a mystery.
We wouldn't be surprised to see old Saul Goodman since Bob Odenkirk continues to work in the Breaking Baduniverse with Better Call Saul, but many other big-name characters didn't survive the series (including Walter White himself — but isn't that why flashbacks were invented?). Skylar (Anna Gunn) and Marie (Betsy Brandt) are still out there, somewhere far away, but a search for Jesse Pinkman might be the last thing to pull them back into a life they left behind.
