Great Leap and the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center present the FandangObon Music and Dance Festival and Farmers Market on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the JACCC, 244 S. San Pedro St. in Little Tokyo.
Join a communal celebration of Mother Earth with the participatory music and dance of Fandango of Veracruz, Mexico; Obon, a Japanese Buddhist tradition in remembrance of ancestors; and African drums and dances from Guinea and Nigerian and Yoruban traditions. And eat and shop at the Farmers Market right on the plaza.
In conjunction with the featival, Great Leap is holding a series of workshops:
Saturday, Sept. 24, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Higashi Honganji Buddhist Temple, 505 E. Third St., Los Angeles.
Sunday, Sept. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Fox and Laurel Park, 14353 Fox St., San Fernando.
Friday, Sept. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Occidental College, Lower Herrick.
Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Eastside Café, 5469 Huntington Dr. North, Los Angeles.
Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Tuesday Night Café, Aratani Courtyard/Union Center for the Arts, San Pedro and First streets, Little Tokyo.
Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at JACCC. Environmental Encentro for community gardeners, artists, environmental activists and practitioners.
