Samsung announced in a brief, almost hilariously vague blog post on its website on Tuesday that the "the newest Galaxy Z series" will be the thinnest and lightest batch of foldables from the company to date. That's...pretty much the only bit of news in the blog post. Samsung didn't say when the foldables will be shown off, how many foldables there will be, what they will be called, or even specifically how thin and light they will be.
However, we can use a combination of common sense and leaks to fill in some of those blanks. Samsung announces new foldables every summer, so it probably won't be long now before we actually see these devices. Barring a true surprise, there will almost certainly be two foldables: The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7,assuming Samsung sticks to its usual routine. If Samsung's specific verbiage in the blog post is to be trusted, both will be thinner and lighter than before.
Beyond that, prolific tech leaker @UniverseIce on X (via TechRadar) claimed in May that the Z Fold 7 specifically will be just 3.9mm thick in its unfolded state and 8.9mm when folded. The Galaxy Z Fold 6's thickness measures in at 5.6mm when unfolded and 12.1mm when folded, for comparison's sake.

This continues a recent trend of smartphone companies trying to make flagships (or flagship-adjacent devices) as thin as possible. Samsung recently released the Galaxy S25 Edge, a phone that is, indeed, very thin. Apple is also heavily rumored to be working on something called the "iPhone 17 Air," which would be an iPhone equivalent to what Samsung made, theoretically, anyway.
Here's hoping the battery life doesn't suffer too much from all this deflation.
